Our History

The Nuremberg Community Players is a nonprofit community theater based in Nuremberg, Pennsylvania. NCP was founded in 1983, originally established as a choral group. Rev. William and Judith Knott, pastor of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Nuremberg, brought together parish members and local townspeople on February 28, 1981, to perform “Sing Together”, a musical play about the beginning of America. This performance was held in the chapel of Emmanuel Lutheran Church. From this original skit the beginning of the Nuremberg Community Players  continued to perform plays and musicals to this day.

Thereafter it evolved into the area’s oldest active, continually running community theatre organization with performances ranging in all ages and multiple different types of productions.  In 2011, Saint Joseph’s church was purchased and became NCP’s permanent home! Renovations were made over the next several years to completely transform our new home into a full functioning stage.  A twelve-member board of directors meets monthly to handle business and financial affairs.  The general membership is comprised of persons from all walks of life: professional, non-professional and students from first grade through college.

In addition to providing live affordable performances to the community, we are active in donating to, and raising funds for, local charities including the Salvation Army and Nuremberg PIN (people in need).  We assist the Boy Scouts in earning their theatre badges and conduct free children’s theatre workshops. We help with our neighbors by holding fundraisers and getting involved in different community-based programs. Each year we present a two-hundred-dollar scholarship to a local high school graduate whose focus of education will be in the Arts.

We continue to work to bring a variety of new plays each year. Income for our theater is raised by performances, grants, donations and campaigns to raise monies needed. All are welcomed from all over; no matter age or ability, to come and find an exciting way to get involved!
